GreenUp conference 2024 Keynote speech announcement

In 2015, the United Nations member states established 17 sustainability goals in the Paris Climate Agreement. They are to be achieved by 2030. The goal is to make our planet more sustainable for future generations and to counteract anthropogenic climate change. Measures range from “Zero Hunger,” “Sustainable Consumption,” “Better Education and Opportunities,” “Principle of Equality,” to “Sustainable Partnerships.”

An important success factor for the successful implementation of the goals is that everyone knows them. But the opposite is true. 46% of respondents in Germany are aware of the sustainability goals. This is below the 56% of respondents in the EU.

“Sustainability” has a communication problem: too complex, too scientific, too restrictive. In addition, everyone understands something different about “sustainability.” Even the media still report too little about it. At the same time, companies must continue to update their sustainability reports. Many solutions are already included therein. There are also many solutions in research, but no one reads or understands them. This leads to valuable knowledge being lost.

However, there are new media offerings that can meet the needs of learners to develop future competencies – in a participatory creative manner. These are Augmented and Virtual Reality. The strengths of the media AR and VR for information dissemination are obvious. Through their new interactive-spatial application possibilities, they create new media experiences that can be used for creative participatory education. Numerous examples that prove this will be presented in the presentation. Among them is the first media platform for education with AR and future topics such as climate and societal change: FUTURELEAF.space®

With fun informative topics about the 17 sustainability goals in the form of videos, articles, the new medium Augmented Reality (AR) is also used as an information medium. The offering was developed by media professionals together with young people and tested with them for effectiveness and relevance as well as media usage behavior. Examples of these results will be presented in the presentation.
