Born in 1945 in Diessen in Ammersee, completed studies: philosophy and theology (1970 Dipl. theol. University of Eichstätt), cultural sociology and communication science (1973 Dr. phil. University of Salzburg), communication training and media education (1976 Cert. 1976 AKM Zurich – Graz), Habilitation in communication science, focus on media education (1980 University of Salzburg), appointment as O. Univ. Professor and full professor for audiovisual media, media culture and media education at the University of Vienna (1992), research and publications on the theory and science of communication, media, media society, communication culture, media education, transcultural communication and sub-areas such as health, environmental and religious – and urban communication, on professionalization and alternatives to social media use, especially in the area of application of alternative media and community media – linear and digital.
Founder of U-tv and u-ton, university television and university radio at the University of Vienna, founding president of OKTO Community TV Vienna and its long-standing chairman.
